October Student of the Month - John Banas
November 1, 2008
John has studied guitar and piano at Love The Arts! School of Music since 2003 under Mr. Philip Mancini. He has been a Student of the Month in November 2003, December 2004, April 2006, and June 2007. John has performed many times at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church; where his family attends and where he also attends Greek School weekly. He is in the 8th Grade at Wyoming Area High School and is a High Honor Roll student. John’s favorite song to play, on piano, is “Linus and Lucy” also known as the “Peanuts Theme” and on guitar, he enjoys finger picking the classical/flamenco tune “Malagueña”.

September Student of the Month - Ashley Coggins

Ashley has been a guitar student under Mr. Mancini at Love The Arts! School of Music since July 2008. She is 12 years old and in the 7th grade at the Pittston Area Middle School. Ashley enjoys playing pop and country music; her favorite song is “Our Song” by Taylor Swift and her favorite band is The Jonas Brothers. One of her prized possessions is a guitar signed by many country legends. Ashley has many goals; she would like to play and sing country music and become a veterinarian. She is currently participating in this fall’s performance master class “Concept to Concert”.

Jerome Ducharme concert

Canadian guitarist Jerome Ducharme started the Classical Guitar Societry of Northeastern Pennsylvania 2008-2009 concert season off to a fantastic start. Jerome played close to two hours of some of the most demanding pieces written for guitar for us at the Scranton Cultural Center on September 20, 2008. The CGSNEPA has many fantastic performers scheduled for this season, please plan to attend the concerts. The setting and atmosphere of the concerts is wonderful and you will get to meet some of the top performers in the world up close and personal. All concerts are on the calendar at

LTA! Picnic
August 20, 2008
The Lord provided a beautiful day for our annual picnic, temps in the 80's a cool breeze and plenty of sun. The Pool was full of kids and Mr. Phil with the water temp at 84 degrees. The food was fantastic, thanks to all who brought a plate or dessert, and the fellowship was sweet. Pictures are posted on the "Photos" page make sure to check them out. Looking forward to next years picnic already.

Love The Arts! School of Music will be on Summer Break from July 21 to August 1. No Lessons or Master Classes are scheduled during this time. Lessons resume Monday August 4 at 10am.

Martin Guitar Factory Field Trip

Well the long awaited trip to the Martin Factory was well worth the wait! Ben our guide gave us an inside look at what goes into making a guitar as well as Uke's. Students gave a mini concert in the "Pickers Parlor" where they had the chance to play many guitars, some in the $7,000 price range. Pictures of our trip will b posted shortly, check them out!

Spring Master Class Completion

The Spring Master Class came to a close with Completion Certificates handed out and gifts for all who attended. As a gift to all students we will be taking a private group tour of the Martin Guitar Factory on June 27th for a job well done. Make sure to check out the Photo page to see all the latest photos from the Masters Class and the Martin Trip.
The Fall Masters Class is in the works so stay tuned for all the details. Sneak Peak: Performance will be the main topic with a "House Concert" as the conclusion to the class.
May 2008 Student of the Month Allie Rainey
June 1, 2008
Allie has been playing piano for 2 years, sang in the choir at the St. Mary’s Mount Carmel Church in Dunmore and is currently singing in the Marywood Children’s Choir. Allie is finishing up her 4th grade school year at St. Mary’s Mount Carmel Church, Dunmore. In addition to music, Allie likes to dance, ski, swim, and play basketball. Allie recently performed for and was recognized for her participation at Love The Arts! School of Music Master Classes, Spring 2008, which she received a Certificate of Completion.

April 2008 Student of the Month Fabia Rachid

Fabia has been studying Voice with Mr. Mancini at Love The Arts! School of Music for 9 months. She has also studied Electric Bass under Mr. Mancini. When she returns home in June, Fabia will use her talents as a singer and Bass player to perform with her brother in Brazil. Fabia’s musical interests include: Opera, Classical, and Modern music. Her other interests include tennis and learning how to surf. All of us, at Love The Arts!, wish Fabia all the best as she returns home to Brazil.
Urbane Gospel Choir Concert
April 26, 2008
We enjoyed a powerful night of song called "Threads of the Tapestry" Friday April 25, 2008. The Urbane Gospel Choir and Gordito Frito Latin Jazz Band both from Pocono Mountain School District with special guests The Gospel Knights from Mt. Vernon, New York. The groups performed original and standards with all the excitement of a Gospel Church service. As the school year is coming to an end and the kids look forward to some time off we look forward to hearing them next year.

Philip Mancini receives "Above and Beyond" Award

Philip has received the "Above and Beyond" Award from Rolling Thunder Pennsylvania Chapter 3 for his efforts with the Salute to Veterans Ride VIII on July 15, 2007. Philip is the President and one of ten founding members of Narrow Gate Riders Motorcycle Ministry. NGRMM also received a Certificate of Appreciation from Rolling Thunder Chapter 3 for the groups efforts on the ride. To learn more about NGRMM and see photos please visit

David Leisner Concert

David Leisner gave the final concert of the inaugural year of our Northeaster Pennsylvania Classical Guitar Society. David performed peices of Heitor Villa-Lobos, Mertz, performed his own arrangements of Scott Joplin and Bach as well as performed for the second time in public his original composition "Labyrinths". David brought to a close a fantastic first year of the NEPACGS and has given us the hope of more fantastic musicians in the years to come.
