JORGE CABALLERO CONCERT TRIP Saturday March 28, 2009 at 8:00 PM Marywood University, Marian Chapel A guest of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Guitar Society on March 28th, Mr. Caballero will perform a few selections by Villa-Lobos, a very rare Sonata by the extraordinary lutenist Sylvius L. Weiss, not known to have been previously performed on guitar, and Mr. Caballero’s own arrangement, the first ever made for guitar, of Alban Berg’s Piano Sonata Opus 1. Jorge Caballero, the youngest musician and only guitarist to win the prestigious Naumburg International Competition, is known for his dazzling virtuosity, intense musicality and spellbinding performances. He is widely regarded as one of the finest guitarists of his generation. Allan Kozinn of the New York Times called Mr. Caballero a “superb young guitarist” and praised his rare combination of “a deft, powerful technique and a soft-spoken interpretive persona.” In addition to the Naumburg Competition won in 1996 at the age of 19, Mr. Caballero is the recipient of top prizes at the Tokyo International Competition, Luis Sigall Competition, and First Latin American Guitar Competition.
